Personal involvement in building the company defines Carson Johanson’s Precoa experience.

Carson came to Precoa immediately after receiving his undergraduate degree from a top-tier business management program. While his options were open, he chose Precoa after hearing about the company from a former classmate.

“A good friend of mine was working here and when he talked about it, I could just feel how excited he was,” he says. “The more he talked, the more I realized that I couldn’t pass on this kind of an opportunity.”

Like many others who work at Precoa, Carson was impressed by what he heard and saw and was excited when a position was offered to him. The funeral part, however, took a little getting used to.

“I never would have thought that someone with my background would fit into the funeral industry,” he says. “A few years ago I had never heard of things like a retort or at-need case volume—I certainly didn’t realize there would be such an exciting company like Precoa to work for.”

Despite the learning curve, Carson said he has found the preneed industry to be vibrant, and full of quality individuals.

“Here I’m surrounded by great people,” he says. “People who care about you and your family; people who are extremely talented and capable; people who are fun to be with.”

Working in business development, Carson is able to employ his skills in projects that have a direct effect on the growth of the company. Personal involvement in the success of the company is an important part of being a member of the Precoa team.

“With this kind of an environment, I feel like I can really make a difference. I’m not just stuck in some mega-corporation that has exact workflows and processes that I just follow without any ability to deviate,” he says. “I’m helping create processes and find the solutions that help the company grow and prosper.”

(For the record, a retort is also known as a crematory, and is where a cremation takes place, and at-need case volume is the measure of services a funeral home provides in a year.)
